The Dance Dept. is recognized as the premier dance studio in the Midlands area because of excellence in training coupled with outstanding customer service and organization. Our core teachers are well-trained dancers with degrees in education. Our staff participates in professional development courses each year to stay current and learn new techniques in teaching.

Our Story

The Dance Dept. was established in 1994 by Lauren Metts. Lauren received her training under Ann Brodie at Calvert-Brodie School of Dance. She has a degree in Elementary Education, with a dance certification. Lauren coached the dance team at Irmo HS for 14 years. Under her direction, they were State Champions 10 years in a row and National Champions 8 times. Lauren also is the founder of the Dutch Fork HS Dazzler Dance Team.

Lauren is the former coach of the dance team at the University of SC. Lauren worked for the dance division of NCA, and later UDA, for over a decade. She is an accomplished choreographer, having won countless regional and national awards. NCA Danz awarded her National Instructor of the Year 3 years in a row.

Many of Lauren’s students have gone on to dance on cruise ships, in professional dance companies, on college dance teams, at Walt Disney World and other amusement parks, and several have received college dance scholarships. Many of her former dancers have gone on to amazing careers outside of the world of dance, taking with them the discipline, organizational skills, and work ethic cultivated while in her program.
